Routine street parking creates access issues for our Street department, Sanitation department, and postal delivery. Routine street parking creates access and safety issues for our Police and Fire departments and for neighborhood residents as well. Routine street parking creates unnecessary hazards for our children and other drivers since driving visibility is restricted and reaction times are reduced.
Routine street parking is a nuisance and safety hazard for all concerned. It is a city-wide issue that should be addressed sooner than later, especially in light of the cities growth, including the goals and objectives the city of Durant has recently adopted.
To eliminate real and potential problems, routine parking on our neighborhood streets should not be allowed. There can be exceptions such as < 1hr parking to allow for deliveries and loading/unloading of passengers or merchandise. Overnight (6 PM to 6 AM) parking should never be allowed due to increased safety concerns.
