Assistant City Manager

Education & Experience

James Dalton is a Bryan County native and has an Associates Degree in Applied Science - Respiratory Therapy from Rose State College in MWC, OK.

James has previously worked as a Medic / EMT for eight years in the metro OKC area. He was also the original Chairman / Administrator of the Bryan County Ambulance Authority which was established in 1980; now Bryan County Emergency Medical Service.

James also served three years on the Planning and Zoning Committee for the City of Durant and 14 years as a Reserve Officer / Negotiator for the Durant Police Department.

He is a Certified Oklahoma Emergency Manager from both the Oklahoma Emergency Management Association and Northeastern Oklahoma State University.

James was Director of Durant / Bryan County Emergency Management in 2006 before taking on Interim Assistant City Manager duties in 2019.  Later that same year, he officially moved into the Assistant City Manager role. 

Before beginning his County / Municipal career, he earned a certificate in Mortuary Science from University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK and is the former owner and operator of Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home in Durant from 1979-1999.

James' family includes his wife Carla.  They have two grown sons and one beloved grandson.
