Reserves

The Durant Police Reserve Unit was first formed in 1982 and coordinated by Ardie Ballew. 29 years later, Ballew is still coordinating reserve efforts as Reserve Chief of Police. Chief Ballew maintains a force of 20 to 25 reserve officers at all times. These Officers are responsible for citizens' security during special events such as the Magnolia Festival as well as assisting officers on patrol. Reserves are a vital part of the Durant Police Department. Without them many services may be cut, diminishing the quality of life that Durant citizens have come to enjoy. In 2013, Reserve Officers volunteered 5,196 hours of service to the City, saving an approximate $130,000 in paid salaries had a full time officer provided the same services.
